New York Jets LogoI’m a life long Jets fan but I must get this off my chest.

What the heck is wrong with this team and it’s management? Seriously, I’m starting to think a monkey and my little sister could make better decisions using a Ouija board.

How is it that we have a sports team in arguably the largest sports market in the country and yet;

  • Giants Stadium - Home Of The New York Jets?We can’t have our own Stadium - Doomed to sharing a stadium with the Giants, presumably forever now, I can’t help but think that this is a huge sign of what the people holding the reins in Jets land really think of the franchise and it’s potential. Seriously, how much pride do you think they have if having a home of their own is not of any importance? When even the owner is willing to treat the franchise like an after-thought, what makes you think anyone else on the payroll is going to care? We are the only team in the NFL being forced to share a stadium…we are literally the homeless bums of the NFL.
  • We can’t get a single marquee player on the roster - Wayne ChrebetCurtis MartinLets’ be honest…as good as a few of the players we’ve had in recent memory have been, Curtis Martin being the lone exception, everyone else has been a pleasant surprise at best. The Giants have managed to get some big time names on their roster - Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, Eli Manning, Jeremy Shockey….and regardless of what you might think of these guys, at least when the Giants go down it’s NOT because they have no talent on the field. The closest we have come to an actual superstar on the roster, again not including Curtis Martin, is Wayne Chrebet. I am and was a big fan of the man but he should have never been the “best” player on the team.
  • We gave away the best name/look in football - Does anyone really enjoy having the team look like a fleet of Hess trucks?Hess Gas What exactly was wrong with “The Titans Of New York”The Titans Of New York Football Jersey - Vilma & those beautiful blue and gold uniforms? What really gets my goat is that when teams like the Bronco’s, the Ram’s (who turned our blue and gold color scheme into “The Greatest Show On Earth”), the Pat’s and the Buc’s were exercising the demons of their past failures by giving the players a fresh start with brand new uniforms, the best our crappy Jets could muster was to go rummaging through the basement, dust off Joe Namath’s old uniform and throw that out as our “new” look. I could almost hear Bill Parcells saying, “Hey Namath won in this thing….maybe these guys will too”. Remember that each one of those other teams went on to have almost immediate success, including several Super Bowl wins between them. Of course, I know it was more than the uniforms in each of those cases but having a fresh start was pretty key too. Those teams understood that sometimes it is necessary to remove St. Louis Rams' Marshall Faulkthose things, however mundane, that bring about negative feelings and results. The Broncos couldn’t win the big game even with Hall of Famer John Elway leading the way. After years of the Orange Crush, we were introduced to the new look Broncos and lo and behold, not only do they go on to win the big game but they even managed to repeat the feat the very next year! New England & Tampa Bay had long endured snickering about the mascots on the side of their helmets. Let’s face it, those guys had a couple of fagot tight-ends waiting to get porked on their helmets. Tampa was arguably one of the worst teams in NFL history for a number of years to be rivaled only perhaps by New Orleans. The Pats had made Super Bowl appearances but no wins, yet one simple change to the uniforms of these teams and the players suddenly had a new swagger. They were no longer “the same old Pats/Buc’s” but a new team…a new breed. Again, I know there were tons of other changes involved in the success of these teams, Herm Edwards and Tony Dungy in Tampa for instance and of course Bill “All I Do Is Win” Belichick in New England, but still each of these teams took pride in the on field appearance and perspective of the players. What hope do our players have when the perception is one of constant lose and strife?
