Republican presidential candidate John McCain
Well whaddaya know? I’m a Democrat?!! According to this tool (”tool”, heh heh), I am in alignment on a lot of key issues with presidential hopeful and former senator John Edwards. Who knew? I’ll admit Edwards seems likable enough, but would I actually lend him my vote?

Thankfully, I am relieved of such serious decisions because the rest of you have ruled him out as an option - nice guys finish last ya know. But, like my compatriot here, this tool did make me think about a lot of these issues and about the remaining candidates. I, too, have come away from all this looking to McCain to become our nation’s 44th president, but in all honesty, he’s the “default” option.

As much as I believe in the humanistic and group-hug ideals of the Democratic Party, I just don’t see what those ideals have to do with our federal government and what it was designed to do. Given the choice, of course I’d like health coverage for all Americans, better education, gun control laws and the universal right for anyone so destined to get legally married. On the surface, these are great things. Alas, making these concepts into reality has nothing to do with our federal government. Our constitution was not written to be amended and changed at will, to support the flavor of the week hot topic. Our federal government is designed to protect our free rights, to protect our borders, to protect our infrastructure and, like it or not, these days it’s job is to oversee the free world. I certainly don’t want our government telling me I need to pay for someone elses healthcare or education. This is Amercia, you want it bad enough you work for it.

I have personally witnessed many immigrants come into this country legally, work their tails off and live the American Dream. You’re going to tell me that those who have worked hard & sacrificed to get ahead have to support those who slacked off and feel they deserve a free ride?? I don’t think so. Sure, there are plenty of hardship cases, and there are plenty of options to help those people and there would certainly be plenty more if we could weed out all the leaches.

Presented with the current options, I will lend my vote to McCain because he represents the candidate least likely to damage what I hold dear. You want a better country? Quit your bitching, get off your ass and help out!

2Cups 2Cents…peace~
