Kyla EbbertUPDATE: KYLA EBBERTS TODAY SHOW VIDEO

America, when will you wake up to face this simple fact? So many American’s get caught up in defending against the erosion of our basic civil liberties that they have forgotten that with this awesome power and privilege we call freedom comes serious responsibilities to themselves and to the very fabric of the society we have labored so hard to nourish and build. Case in point: Kyla Ebbert.

This morning I caught Matt Lauer which was a very rare moment for me as I usually try to fill my morning time with less depressing viewing than what the news media usually provides. Matt had Kyla, along with her mother and her lawyer, on the show explaining how she was refused the right to a seat on a flight based solely on how she was dressed. She was wearing the same outfit on his show she wore that day and Matt had her stand up for the viewing audience.

She wore what a lot of people would call a typical college-aged girls outfit; a white, short sleeved blouse with a light, green/aqua colored sweater over it followed by a white short, short mini-skirt. The skirt was the type that looks like a pair of jeans someone cut the legs and crotch out of to make into a just-barely-enough-there-to-cover-you-up skirt. This picture does not show the actual skirt in question but it is a fair representation of the actual length and coverage offered by the skirt I saw her wearing on Matt’s show.

Of course, as the young lady stood up for Matt, she was immediately forced to spend a few seconds awkwardly & almost embarrassingly, pulling down her extremely short skirt. Who can blame her? After all, if you’re going to sue someone for basically calling you out for dressing like you’re meeting up with the girls for a night of trolling bars and hook-ups is appropriate at 1pm on a Wednesday, then you should probably try and look as wholesome and pure as a “fuck me like a dirty whore” mini-skirt will allow!

When the moment seemed apropos, she sat back down with as much dignity as a girl who knows she is about to become the latest up-skirt video sensation on YouTube and blogs everywhere can muster. Sure enough, everyone watching got a nice extended view of her pearly white undies while she tried to sit and cross her legs in as quick and seamless a motion as she could. The best part for me, up to this point in the interview, was the fact that Kyla was vehemently explaining that she was pulling and holding her light sweater close over her chest so as not to be too revealing! How fucking dense and programmed to just follow the herd do you have to be to think that your ass can be hanging out of your skirt but the real problem is that sweater & top combination?!

To his credit, Matt took this moment to point out that perhaps, just maybe now, it was her very short skirt and the fact that possibly passengers walking up the aisle towards her might be getting a free peep show. Her response to this was the standard New, Modern and Liberated American Woman line of justification - “Oh no! I had my legs crossed and a magazine on my lap the whole time!”. Is it just me or doesn’t this sound an awful lot like, “Hey! I feel like expressing my freedom of speech by walking around topless today but it’s cool ’cause I kept my arms crossed the whole time so no one saw much anyway, right?”

These are the same genius’s that leave the house looking like they are on their way to the latest Girls Gone Wild auditions but are offended and shocked that men stare at them and sometimes make lewd remarks! Look, I’m not going to try and justify some ass that is incapable of exercising some adult restraint when he is in the presence of a strikingly beautiful woman, who just so happens to be flashing her ass in his
face, but let’s talk truth now.

Being a responsible, contributing-to-society adult boils down to some very simple facts of life that many Americans seem hell-bent on avoiding:

1. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DO SOMETHING, DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD.
I can’t help but think of something I once heard Chris Rock say in a comedy skit, “You could drive a car with your feet if you want to, but that don’t mean it’s a good fucking idea.”

2. ALL ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES & THOSE CONSEQUENCES AIN’T ALWAYS PRETTY.
The libertarian in me wholeheartedly agrees with all of you - Kyla Ebbert has every right to wear what she wants when she wants to wear it. Where I have a problem is in the fact that this woman, and a large portion of our fellow Americans, feels that she should not have to face any of the consequences that come with her decision. All happy, tree-hugging bullshit about how life should be fair aside, the hard unyielding truth is that in this world, if you give people the perception that you are a slutty, short-skirt wearing whore who doesn’t have enough common sense to save that kind of attire for more appropriate times & places, then guess how some people are going to treat you? Fair or not, perception is
reality.

3. SOMETIMES IN LIFE YOU JUST HAVE TO DO WHAT YOU’RE TOLD.
It saddens me how many Americans fall prey to this absolutely childish need to be the uber “I’m different, I’m unique, I know better than all of you, and you’re not the boss of me” rebel all the time. How about you shut the fuck up and grow up? I am not for one second proposing we all become good little cows who just follow the herd to the slaughter. Somewhere between the extremes of being just another cow and “fuck you, you’re not the boss of me” is something most people would call a good, well-grounded responsible adult. And yeah, that means at least some of the time you have to do what your boss tells you to do or what your spouse/significant other tells you to do or what the asshole cop on the corner tells you to do or what the situation calls for, even if it is unpleasant to do so. It is the right and responsibility of all Americans to question those in a position of power, authority and might. However, there is a huge difference between remaining ever vigilante against the possibility of injustices by those in a position of power and using the system to help you justify your own selfish, “It makes me feel good so fuck you” agenda.

In my wanderings thru the blogsphere today, I am decidedly alone in my stance. I have yet to see a single post not portraying her as some kind of victim. In reading these various comments one thing has struck me. Few if any have seen the video clip of this young lady in her outfit. Most were drawing their conclusions of innocence based on a picture posted in an article for The San Diego Union-Tribune today. This picture shows Kyla sitting pretty, legs tightly crossed and looking exactly like the victim she claims to be. This picture is a fraud folks. One need only watch the broadcast I watched this morning to see that this young woman was given every opportunity to pose & compose herself in as flattering and innocent a pose as possible for these pictures. The live action seen in this mornings Matt Lauer segment does nothing short of destroying her entire stance.

Kyla, to be as fair as I can be, I am willing to admit that it is not only possible that you are nice, well mannered sweet girl, but likely very probable. Unfortunately, the only thing I know about you is what you presented me this mornings Matt Lauer segment….so basically….you’re a dirty whore. Got a problem with that? Then learn to dress like a lady who is secure enough to know that she doesn’t have to flash the ass to get the goods.

Final advice? You might consider getting away from the influence of Hooters girlfriend, because obviously you have spent so much time in provocative attire as to have lost a sense of when it is appropriate and when it is not.
