Roger Clemens on 60 Minutes.I thought I gave a crap. Turns out I don’t. I’m sitting here trying to watch crappy YouTube footage on Roger Clemens. The Rangers game is on. Chris Drury just scored to make it 2-1 in the second against San Jose. I’m finding it quite hard to give a fuck about Roger & his steroids issues.

A lot of it has to do with exactly what my buddy, 2Cups, pointed out recently. Why the hell is Congress involved in all this? Haven’t we got bigger, more pressing issues at hand? Like say, avoiding the fall of Western civilization by getting off of foreign oil reserves before we hit our oil break point? Most experts say that is what will ultimately bring down the Untied States into a potential third world state. Worse is they expect, based on our current rate and growth of oil consumption, to hit this break point within the next 1 to 2 decades! This means within our lifetimes. Certainly in the lifetimes of our children and like in the early years of their lives. Anybody want that? Anyone? That sounds like something Congress should be talking more about on TV, hmm?

Why isn’t the commissioner of baseball, an independent third party appointed for exactly these kinds of reasons, handling this issue? Professional athletes should be afforded no more protection from strictly enforced, random drug testing the work place than anyone else is. Period. I am not one of those people who begrudges the amount of money these people get paid. I actually think they should get paid well for what they do. Despite what your average arm chair athlete will tell you, what these guys do on TV, in these ballfields, stadiums and arenas is not easy. Only a select few humans even come close to possessing the levels talent and raw physicality to do what they make seem so effortless. Don’t think so? Check out Spikes Pros Vs. Joes. Even old pros have more than you’ve got in those areas. I haven’t even mentioned the super sized portions of guts, will, determination, intestinal fortitude and just sheer luck these athletes need to possess too.

Rangers are all over the Sharks right now. I wish ESPN would cover hockey on TV more. I know, I know.

There’s no market on TV for hockey…No one watches the games…It’s too hard to see the puck…

Blah, blah, blah. People are stupid. Soccer is like the most beloved sport on the planet. It involves the same basic format and rules of hockey. Basically make the soccer field smaller, replace ‘use feet only’ with ‘use sticks only’, put everyone on ice and voila! You have hockey. It’s the same fucking game people! So why is one so loved and the other so hated? I just don’t get it. Ok, I’ll give you the whole, “Soccer can be played by any class bracket…just buy a ball and you have a soccer game“, but come on! No one says your kids need to have an ice rink and a Zamboni. A ball and a stick and you can play good fashioned floor hockey. Hell, thats even closer to soccer! As a hockey fan I get disgusted by soccer fans because they ignore the obvious similarity between the sports. As a hockey fan, at least I know there will be some action while soccer games are notorious for entire games where the ball never even comes close to the net. It’s no wonder they riot at those games.

I guess I’m just pissed because I’m a Detroit Red Wings fan and I never get to see them play. Ranger and Devils games is better than nothing I suppose.

Whatever.
